Emma liked her Uncle @wskylar . She also liked visiting him on set. Though some of the locations featured on the lot and floor changed others stayed the same such as the precinct, the hospital, etc. Locations they tended to feature in every single episode. Even though she had only ever been featured on a three episode arc on the show two years ago she remembered where most everything was as well as most folks' names every time that she visited. She made sure to say hi to the makeup person, to the crew, to the nice costume ladies who always cooed over her and complimented her. Plus when she wasn't filming it was an excuse to not be.. well... home. And even though she was just five years old she knew that she definitely did not want to be there. Not at all. The director for today's episode had directed an episode or two of All The Little Pieces, the sitcom she was on the main cast of now in its second year, so she already had him wrapped around her little finger. He knew her when she was a baby, when she was four, and now she was five... practically a grown up! And so she stood at his side with the rest of the crew while her Uncle and a few others filmed a scene. Emma even got to hold a clipboard and wear a headset that was far too big for her and threatened to slide right down to her neck. Unlike most children her age (and some older) she managed to stay quiet until they were wrapped after a few takes and once cut and break was yelled she tossed the headset over to a crew member and skipped over toward her Uncle who had two people removing a few props and uniform parts from him to put back into storage. "You did good Uncle William." She said in a high pitched voice talking up at him like the other adults weren't there. "You had a lot of hard words to say." Well it was a medical and police drama so that made sense. On the show she was on there wasn't anything hard to pronounce. It was more cutesy than anything else.

Another day. Another scene. They were shooting a scene where they were trying to figure out the diagnosis of a patient. As usual it was a diagnosis that wasn't supposed to be blatantly obvious. After all it was supposed to be a drama. The writers wanted to build suspense and keep everyone guessing. It was fun to be a part of. Plus they had the trauma scenes where it was supposedly life or death. Those could also be a lot of fun. He genuniely enjoyed being a part of this show. Everyone was just a blast to work with. Of course a part of him still wanted to become an actual doctor, but if he couldn't have that, he'd take being on the show.
Plus the show was great enough to allow him to get his little niece onto the show in it's second season, and even let her come and hang out with them. He always enjoyed having her around on the set. Today was no exception. They had set her up as almost a mini director. It had been cute to see when he had gotten out of makeup. It had gotten a smile out of him. Of course then he had had to get into character and shoot the scenes. Once they were happy with what they saw, they wrapped on that scene.
He waited on the set while some of the crew came and took his white coat and stethoscope, along with a couple other things he had on him to put them away or get them ready for the next scene they were shooting. He saw his niece approaching, and when she complimented him he smiled and said "Well it's only because I had the best director cheering me on from the sidelines." It was really nice to be in the same business as his niece. It meant he got to spend quite a bit of time with her. Which he was certainly fond of. She certainly had him wrapped around her little finger, and he let her get away with a lot more than he probably should. "And I did have a lot of big words, but they're not awful. I've seen harder words." He said with a smile. "Are you having fun helping out?"

"I'm not a real director Uncle Billy. I'm an actress. You know that." At her Uncle's compliment she blushed and looked down at her feet. She still wore her black rain boots with multicolored dots all over them (it had been raining outside when her parents had dropped her off for the visit). "Mommy and Daddy say I'm a star. Are you a star Uncle Billy?" She asked which had once of the assistance stifling a snicker. Shifting on the balls of her feet shyly she then looked back up hiding her face slightly behind the wood of the clipboard like a shield. "I don't get to do lots of serious stuff like I did when on your show. On mine I have to ask a lot of questions and make a lot of faces." She scrunched her own face up in disgust as if that cutesy sort of stuff was beneath her like she already was some Julianne Moore or River Ashford craving roles with substance even though she was just a five year old and new-ish to the whole thing.
"Uh huh.." She nodded to his question. "I'm not really helping though. I'm just holding. Holding isn't helping." Though she was still little she still knew enough that she realized the real director had been the person standing beside her the whole time. "Too bad I died or I could be in this episode with you." She said bluntly referring to her three episode arc a few seasons ago where she had croaked by the end. It made people sad.. Emmy thought it was funny. She wasn't really dead!

"Lots of actors and actresses become directors as well you know." He said with a smile. A couple of the other actors on the show with him had directed an episode here or there. He was sure if he wanted to direct an episode he would be given the chance at some point. He wasn't sure if he would take that opportunity just yet, but it was an option for him. "I think you are a star too. And what do you think. Do you think I am a star?" He asked her, wondering what her opinion was. Sure he had had been on a pretty successful TV drama in his late teen/early twenties, Several movies throughout his life and now with Code Blue, but he wasn't necessarily a household name. He supposed it depended on what your definition of star was. "Well there is a lot of different types of shows, you know that. And each one is just as good as the others." Most dramas didn't have a lot of permanent child roles, if any. He knew her parents had wanted her to have steady work, which was more suited to the type of roles she had at the moment.
"Glad to hear it." He said when she said she was having fun. "You know even holding something can be helping. There are a lot of jobs that need doing, and every one of them is helpful." Even the person who made coffee was helpful. Especially to the often sleep deprived William. "Unfortunately we don't have a need for a pretty little girl in this episode, but who knows what could happen in the future. After all you look more grown up now, there might be a way to work you in, but no promises." Sure she had already been on three episodes, but she had been 2 or 3 at the time, and a lot could change between then and now. But he wasn't in charge of making those calls, so he didn't want to make any promises. "Plus I haven't gotten to come work with you on your show yet." Of course he probably wouldn't make a good fit for that. He wasn't that great at the comedic timing and such.

"Yeah. But not all of the time." She countered simply with a little shrug of her shoulders mixed with a haughty sigh. She liked acting a lot (at least right now) so she fully intended on doing that the rest of her life though she had to admit bossing people around as a director also sounded like loads of fun. "I think I want to be like Wonderwoman when I get big. River gave me some of his old comics when we were on Late Night together." She liked River. He was grumpy but they had been on different talk shows on the same bill three times, plus acted for the same studio, so they had come to know one another a little bit and River, having been a child actor himself, was protective of her. "I like her a lot. She's strong and has an invisible plane. I want one." When he asked if he was a star her face turned red and she wrinkled up her nose. "No. You're Uncle Billy. Not a star!" That made perfect sense to her. It was hard to see the people closest to you as anything but themselves. The folks that you grew up with.
"But Uncle Billy I don't want to just hold things I want to do stuff." She protested with a slight stomp of the foot accompanied by a pout. He could say whatever he liked to try and make her feel better but she wanted what she wanted and that was that. "Maybe.." She shuffled her feet some looking around the set both tiny hands resting on her stomach. "My tummy is hungry." She announced. Where was the kraft services table? Didn't they have one like her show did? Better find it soon. She could get grumpy when she was hungry like most kids.
