Well I’m not exactly Gordon Ramsay But I do my best.
Somehow and Stef wasn’t about to ask how but somehow she had ended up with three days off in a row. Granted that also meant chances were she would be working for the next ten. Still it gave her a chance to get caught up on random stuff and relax. It also gave her a chance to try out a meal or two. That meant taking over the kitchen at home. Lucky for her she had a roommate who never minded having food that wasn’t leftovers or fast food.
Stef was standing at the stove kinda wishing they didn’t rent so she could buy a larger one and stirring two different mixtures of sauce, bringing them both to a good simmer so they would be ready to be put over pasta.
In perfect timing she heard the door open, turning she saw Alex walk in and honestly looking a bit weary from her day. No doubt it had been a long one. “Hey roomie, sit back, relax, grab some wine” She pointed towards a bottle chilling with her spoon. “Food will be ready for tasting shortly.” Honestly she didn’t care if her roommate was hungry or not. It would keep either way and at this point she would eat it as she was hungry. “Got one sauce here that’s kick a bit of a kick and one not. Wasn’t sure what you were in the mood for so made both. New recipes.” She grinned over at Alex with that, excited for the taste testing. But then she usually was.

▲ The life of a page certainly wasn't easy. Today in particular, Alexandra had had a hard day with the tour she had been giving. One family refused to obey any rules, and she felt a bit like a sheep wrangler for the length of the hour and a half tour. By the time she got back to the apartment that she and Stefanie shared, she was dragging her feet and fighting to keep her eyes open. At last, Alexandra opened the door to her apartment, finding Stef at the stove cooking. She couldn't begin to explain how grateful she was for her roommate. Alexandra had recently moved in, and since then, Stefanie had been nothing but nice to her. The fact that she was a chef was the cherry on top, since Alexandra was awful at that kind of thing. Stef greeted her and told her that of course, the food would be ready for tasting. Alexandra heaved a great sigh and did as she was told, throwing her bag to the ground and taking a seat. She opened the wine and poured them both a glass, putting her own to her lips and giving the woman a smile. "Thank you so much - I think I'll go with the spicy. One more thing can kick my butt today, I've still got time," Alexandra laughed, watching Stefanie cook with an attentive eye. "You treat me too well. How was your day out of the working world?"@stefgreen ● 246 words ● notes: --- MADE BY VEL OF GS

Well I’m not exactly Gordon Ramsay But I do my best.
She could tell that Alex had a rough day and felt kinda bad about it. Only really able to imagine just what her roommate went through. Sure there were perks to the job. There were perks to every job. But Alexandra worked directly with the customers so to speak. Lucky for Stef she didn’t. She just had to deal with the head chef. OK so that was just as bad at times.
“Your wish is my command!” With that said she dished out the plates and brought them over to where Alexander had collapsed. Smiling she slid it in front of her roommate and took up her own glass.”Not so bad actually. Didn’t burn anything or serve anything raw that shouldn’t be so no complaints there. Have some big fancy event I half to work coming up. Means you will have to fend for yourself for a day or two.”
She stopped taking a wip of her own wine. “What about you? How was it with all the glitz, glam and wannabe paparazzi?”

▲ When Alexandra had started looking for an apartment, she had no clue what she could have gotten herself into. Looking for a good apartment with a nice roommate in New York City for a somewhat low price was like looking for a needle in a haystack. Yet, somehow Alexandra had found Stef, who had just recently had an opening in her apartment. She knew that the previous tenant was Stef's sister, and her twin at that. Alexandra didn't ask much about Catherine, but she knew that there was definitely some tension there with the whole situation. It wasn't an overwhelming tension, but they simply didn't talk about it. Alexandra knew that Catherine moved out to live with some of her fellow cast members of the Off-Broadway show she had recently been cast in. Whether Stef was actually okay with it or not, Alexandra didn't know. Alexandra groaned dramatically at the mention of her having to find her own food for a couple days: "The horror! How will I survive?" Even though Alexandra barely had any energy left, she somehow found enough to be a fake pain in Stef's side. "I'll probably just be eating bagel bites and wine, and you know that." As much of a joke as it was, it was still one hundred percent true Alexandra behavior. When asked about her day at work, Alexandra heaved a gigantic sigh: "Busy! Always busy. I feel like I'm getting paid to wrangle people like sheep, honestly. Sucks but I still do it. Got some good vlogging coverage during breaks and stuff." And with that, she dug in, hoping that her hunger spoke for itself. @stefgreen ● 274 words ● notes: --- MADE BY VEL OF GS

Stef laughed at Alex’s antics. “Oh the horror whatever will you do.” She knew that at least in part her roommate was joking about the bagel bites and wine. However the whole idea of of bagel bites and wine just sounded horrible.
“Eww” How busy her day was just sounded horrible. Not really how busy it was but how chaotic it was. She knew what busy was like but at least in the kitchen she had an idea of what to expect. Dealing what Alex had to deal with day after day? No thanks. “Work is work but good vlogging is great!”
She shut up then taking the queue and dug into her own meal. Honestly it wasn’t if she did say so herself. At the very least the sauce was a success.

▲ Alexandra knew that Stef was disgusted by her food choices, but there was no way to change her. Though she loved the home cooked, delicious meals that Stef provided, there was no way that Alexandra would ever cook so lavishly. Fresh out of college, Bagel Bites were still Alexandra's best friend. Obviously the food was delicious, and Alexandra never had any complaints with Stef's cooking. While they ate silently, Alexandra continued thinking. It was true that her job was a different type of busy than Stefanie's, as Alexandra's was more unpredictable, whereas Stef's was nearly down to a science and order. Even so, Alexandra could not picture herself in such a calculated job. She would certainly get tired of it after a couple of weeks. She needed unique activities and change in her schedule. Though vlogging and YouTube could be repetitive, the material itself never was, which got her to thinking. Halfway through her plate, Alexandra suddenly put her fork down. "Hey, Stef? How would you feel about doing a... cooking video? Like you were on the Food Network. Only on YouTube. We can do like a roommate cooking thing where you teach me how to make all this stuff," she gestured to her plate. "Not only do you get um... exposure, but I learn how to at least decently make my own food. And if it does well, we could even make it a series. Would that be cool? As long as you don't mind sharing some recipes." Maybe this was what Alexandra needed to diversify her channel. @stefgreen ● 259 words ● notes: --- MADE BY VEL OF GS

It was a comfortable silence between them as they both simply ate. Alex winding down from her day and Stef just enjoying the moment. Of course as to the quality of the food, she was biased but if it was horrible she wouldn’t have served it in the first place.
Her roommate was right however in that her job was rather structured and scientific. Even when you were creative you had to have a solid balance. It really was closer to scientific experimentation then art in many ways. What Alex did with her youtube and her vlogging. She could never do that. Stefanie had watched from behind the scenes before when her roommate created a video. Completely random and off the cuff like that. There was no way.
Stef paused, her fork halfway to her mouth as Alexandra asked her question. Initially she wanted to do nothing but deny it. But it really was also Alex asking for help. “I uh…sure!” She knew that Alex actually had a fair size following. It would mean exposure, something Stef really wasn’t used to. She was very used to just working behind the scenes. Still she could do one episode of it. “Is it bad my brain instantly started working on some dishes to show?”

▲ Part of Alexandra regretted asking Stef. She knew she always preferred to be behind the camera rather than in front, but hopefully the results would be worth the risk. It would just take a little bit of convincing, probably. Or not? Alexandra immediately grinned when Stef agreed to do the show. Not only did this give Alexandra new material, but this gave Stef an opportunity to expand her recognition. If people knew about her in Alexandra's following, they just made give her some more foot traffic. She knew she had caught Stef off guard, but her reaction made it all the more worth it. "Not at all! This is great, I'll make you a little intro and everything." Her brain was already filling with ideas just as Stef's was. Stef probably figured it would be a one time thing, but Alexandra just had a feeling that her show would do well. She wouldn't necessarily pressure her into doing anything, but perhaps convince was a better word. "I'll be with you the whole time, just give me all the little odd jobs to do. And we can do main course and dessert, whatever you want. I just want to show off my super chef roommate," Alexandra took another bite with gusto to demonstrate. @stefgreen ● 212 words ● notes: --- MADE BY VEL OF GS

Really as much as Stef did prefer the whole behind the scenes thing, it would do her good. If she ever hoped to become head chef or run her own place, all that needed to change. Look at all the really big chefs out there that worked in front of the camera. OK she was far from their caliber but that was the world today. Everything was attached to social media. As much as she feared it, the opportunity really would be worthwhile. Even if it was just facing her fear.
“An intro? Really?” She had to wince at that, just proof that her mind hadn’t fully wrapped around the whole idea yet. “But… “ Honestly she didn’t know what to say. But why would she need her own intro unless.. Stef groaned as the realization hit her. “You’re hoping this isn’t just a one time thing aren’t you?” Though she still would do the one show she had agreed on.
As Stef told her to use her like a Sous chef for the show she had to grin. “Might be better to do a lunch dessert combo then main course. Your shows aren’t generally that long. Unless you plan on doing some sort of time lapse thing.”
