////\\\\ Saturday night. The busiest night of the week.
It felt strange not to be working - at either job. He hadn't scheduled himself to work at USBC today, and he'd covered the day shift already for NYPD so the evening had somehow - miraculously - opened wide for him. Normally, he'd either have checked in with his mother or his delinquent brothers and called it a night, maybe would meet up with a girl here and there, but otherwise wouldn't have traveled too far from home.
But tonight was different. He felt a shift in the air; maybe it was the unseasonably warm night, or maybe it was the full moon, or maybe he was just feeling sassy. Either way, he decided to head out on the town for a change of pace.
The pub he chose was crowded - as expected - and he'd already said his hellos to some familiar faces. Heading to the bar, he ordered a pint of beer and flopped himself onto the padded stool, turning his attention to the game on the giant screens on the wall behind a rather attractive bartender. He flashed her a grin, which she returned, and he watched her over his glass as he took a drink.
He noticed movement in the seat beside him, doing a double-take when he realized who it was.
"Hey!" he greeted with a nod, his eyes immediately back on the tv. "Thought you had to work?"
