Dependable || Cynical || Sarcastic || Honest || Closet Nerd Welcome to Human Resources – your one stop shop for all things to make your job with USBC smooth and enjoyable. Got beef with a coworker you just haven’t been able to resolve? This team can fix that. Have questions about insurance? They’re here to save the day. Slept with “The Boss” and now he ignores you and you don’t know what to do about that? Well maybe next time you’ll remember that actions have consequences. Go home and think about what a disappointment you’ve become. No, really. Do it. Meet Margaret! That’s Mrs. Chance to you. Familiarity is reserved for a select few. It’s her job to care about your problems, but frankly she doesn’t. She also doesn’t bother to hide it either, which might be one of the reasons people around the station seem to think she’s heartless bitch. She isn’t (okay, maybe a bit), but she doesn’t show it to just anyone. Maggie likes who she likes and pretty much tolerates everyone else. Her abrasive personality isn’t for everyone, but she tells it like it is, doesn’t take shit from anyone, and is really sick of your stupidity. To top it off, her youngest child (out of three) was recently diagnosed with leukemia AND she just found out her husband has been getting some action on the side, so she has not been in a good mood lately. On the other hand, those nearest and dearest to Margaret have seen the softer (and occasionally more vulnerable) side of her, what little there is. She’s not particularly compassionate, and she certainly doesn’t wear her heart on her sleeve, but she’s kind and has a sense of humor where it counts so you know it's sincere. Needs plots of all sorts. Friends, enemies, possible affairs. Stuff.

David here is probably a thorn in Margaret's side. He can be a nice guy but he also does a lot of things people wouldn't recommend to the fellow in charge: Sleeping around with anyone who catches his interest including employees at USBC. He can be sarcastic and tends to treat every situation like his own personal playground. He also is the big man in charge at the station and OWNS it so you can't really tell him no.. You can try but it'll probably go in one ear and out the other. They're pretty much opposites which is fun.
I'm thinking acquaintances who are really only in the same room because they work together (and Margie is good at her job and they HAVE to have HR).

David :: Yeah, I see him being the worst of the worst possible thorns. Funny thing is, Margaret doesn't give a damn if he sleeps with the entire station (or she used to not, stuff in her own life might start to change her opinion, but maybe she's as numb as she likes to think she is). In her mind, people are generally idiots, and if you're stupid enough to sleep with the man upstairs, then you deserve what you get. Other than that, she does respect him (because she has to). David may be in charge, and Maggie probably would tell him no, but she doesn't care enough to. She's probably got a file just filled with complaints about him.
Acquaintances for sure, though I'd like to think they've known of each other for quite some time outside of work either due to her being a friend of a friend or the wife (possibly soon to be ex-wife) of a friend.

Jasper doubtless knows her but probably doesn't mess with her any more than he is required to. Imogen and Jyothi both get on with their work and don't make much trouble for HR. Tara...is a bit mouthy, so might have a few more complaints registered about her, but honestly she doesn't say anything that isn't true and if people whine about being confronted with their flaws, that's their problem. Margaret could try calling Tara in to her office for the sake of appearances, but they both know Tara's not going to change. Charlotte works kind of freelance-consultant-style for USBC so would have slightly more complicated contract/invoice requirements for her work, so might have more contact with Margaret. Also in light of her kid's health issues at present, maybe Margaret approached her for advice on specialists and to help weigh in on treatment options? Charlotte's no oncologist but she's certainly familiar enough with the field to demystify a few things, and lend support as needed. Also, Charlotte herself is divorced so that might come up after a few glasses of wine. Girls' night out sometime?

Jasper, Imogen, & Jyothi - As long as they don't bother her, she won't bother them. Unless absolutely necessary, but even then Margaret will probably send someone lower on the food chain to handle it.
Tara - Yeah, calling her in would definitely only be for appearances. She likes mouthy people though (usually). They keep her entertained, so she doesn't want Tara to change. Her relationship with Tara will probably be a couple steps higher than general toleration.
Charlotte - I imagine that these two would have developed a friendship of sorts across the years. Maybe close, maybe not, depends on how they play out, but they seem to have similarish enough traits that they would get along to a degree, though not so similar as to want to murder each other. Since she doesn't really like people at work getting involved in her private life, Margaret would be more likely to seek out Charlotte's advice if they were on friendlier terms than simply work acquaintances. Plus she just really needs a friend right now even if she doesn't want to admit it. Definitely in need of a girls' night out.
